One thing is certain, if the intellect makes a firm decision that the objects of the external world cannot fulfill our goal of supreme bliss then internal desires will automatically come to an end. So the first step is to make a firm decision, through constant reflection, that there is not a trace of true happiness in the material world.

‘गु’ का अर्थ माया तम गोविंद राधे |
‘रु’ का अर्थ नाश करे सब को बता दे ||

भावार्थ- ‘गु’ शब्द का अर्थ माया का अन्धकार, ‘रु’ शब्द का अर्थ नाश करना है | अर्थात् जो माया रूपी अन्धकार का नाश कर दे वही गुरु है |

... ईश्वरीय ज्ञान तो है गोविंद राधे |
आवश्यक सर्वप्रथम बता दे ||

भावार्थ- साधक के लिये सबसे पहले ईश्वरीय तत्व-ज्ञान प्राप्त करना आवश्यक है |

ईश्वरीय ज्ञान हित गोविंद राधे |
मन बुद्धि को गुरु शरण करा दे ||

भावार्थ-ईश्वरीय ज्ञान प्राप्त करने के लिये अपने मन एवं बुद्धि को गुरु के शरणागत करना आवश्यक है |
